'Casino Royale the Novel' Cover Reboot

(re-post from my Illustration file on http://cilabpro.blogspot.ca/)

An attempt at the novel cover by Ian Fleming.

For some reason, none of the published collections never really quite satisfied the fan in me.

This Artwork will be part of an article analyzing and deciphering the very first of Bond's adventure to be published @:

Link (Realistic Reboot Design)

An attempt at a realistic take on Link from Nintendo's Zelda License.

I made him a little older than usual as well cause I've personally been playing him for about 20 years so he should look older! :)

For this piece, I misfortunately went for a mix design between the indoor yellow outfit and the motorcycle one, which instead of conveying texture and volumes gives to some the impression of saggy breasts or dislocated shoulder (comment from fans).

However, the overall feedback was positive so here it is.

Here is an alternate coloring by Ryan Mitchell (http://ryanmitchellsblog.blogspot.ca/)

Ian Fleming's Casino Royale (Reboot Cast Inks)

"The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at 3 in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high-gambling - a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension - becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt from it."

The opening of the book strangely mirroring my own feelings towards the latest movie adaptations, it came to me that they should probably have saved time and money by simply re-adapting the novels and its cold war contents and symbolisms. I shall expend on these ideas and similar articles on my upcoming blog "Stories Within" (http://cilabperso.blogspot.ca/).

An attempt to reboot the original characters of the novel, set in 1952 in the north of France. The details of the characters are based on their descriptions in the book itself.

Basil & Kratt - Le Chiffre Henchmen
Bond 1st Villain
Bond's best friend
1st Bond Dame

The French Spy (Belmondo Type)
The man himself, 35 y-o at the time of the Novel

Please come and check again later as there will be some more materials about Casino Royale Reboot, notably a prop sheet and James bond's first vehicle.

Joe Musashi - Shinobi III Tribute

The One, the only, Joe Musashi (you could not do more tacky back in the day and that was 1993 on Sega Megadrive, the Genesis name for Europe, for probably the best 2D Ninja beat'em Up of all times).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epdselGCXkI
for some nostalgic gameplay feedback

Joe had to be part of this gallery.

He has lost popularity over the years due to extreme competition from Ryu Hayabuza, the protagonist of Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden License, and we don't see him very much. There was a shinobi 3D that had nice features but maybe Joe just got old. Or he simply won and retired.

Tribute to GTA: Toni C.

Some linework with basic ink, values and color quick render.

Rockstar videogames have amazing Character design (writtten and visual materials and methods) that I find very inspiring.

A hero/protagonist that has to behave so badly must lose some bolts on the path of his career. Here the developpers had visually translated Toni's crazy shticks, like wearing Bruce Lee Game of death costume (not represented here) for a swordfight based mission, the wiseguy costume out of Goodfellas or even the Lawyer one. Here is a quick selection amongst the outfits available that I found original or simply uncanny or witty.

One of my favourite version of GTA III is LCS with its taxis (and hilarious overall soundtrack), the story, the type of missions, the improved gameplay which were great storytelling feats.

Toni Cipriani, its outfits and  GTA are Rockstar copyrights reserved.

Childhood Hero n°3: Il Grande Blek

I first met "Blek Le Roc" on my dad's advice in those little comic books that LUG Editions (in France) used to publish with titles like Mustang, Tex Willer, Zembla, etc...

Those B&W stories were mostly all european made but emphasized American Heroes at their best.

Amongst them all, Blek, designed for the italian studio Esse Gesse in 1954, was this Bretonnian American freedom fighter resisting the twisted Red Lobsters, read British Royalists, with punches and funny lines.

Thinking back on it, and with more historical sense into me, it seemed more appropriate to...
Break a few of his teeth. Nobody can punch for so long without taking one hisself!!

To situate the character a bit more precisely, his adventures take place between those of Nattie Bumpo (Last of the Mohicans) and Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson in The Patriot), 1750-1775.

Ghost Rider Tribute

A quick sketch and colours for a personal tribute. Interesting character, definitely american (Good/Evil, Faith/Sin, Business deals with Demons and so forth), certainly not deserving the recent cinematographic treatment that it got.

Follow the character in the Ultimates line from Marvel for one of the character's best recent take.

Ghost Rider is Marvel Copyrights.

Childhood Hero n°1 : Dragon Ball's Goku

Son Goku (or SanGoku as I knew him in France) was a major hero for millions of kids all over the world. At least 2 generations, one of "big brothers" (1980s) with Dragon Ball and one of "Lil'brothers" (1990s) with Dragon Ball Z (the Z means II by the way), enjoyed his adventures every morning on holidays and at least twice per school week (from 1988 until 1996 on TV in France and from 1993 on in paper version, not including the myriad of video games and OAVs that the license created in the following success).

I personally lost track of the story around the time mr. Toriyama Akira sold the rights (for Dragon Ball GT) and therefore felt more at ease trying a take on the Son Goku I remember.
The one who Kame Sen'nin (Tortue Géniale in the french version, which translates approximately by "Genius/Amazing Turtle"), in one of those genius moments of Toriyama storytelling, sent along with Krilin to fetch him a sexy girl when the kid doesn't even know what a girl is, the one who courageously fought Tao PaiPai, the evil killer and the Red Ruban army and could transform into King Kong once every moonlight.

The innocence of the character is his best asset all along the story as he is tough enough to always trust everybody at the risk of being betrayed.
The fun coming from that same innocence depicted as dumb but always in an unharmful way which I found again later, discovering Dr Slump (a hilarious manga revolving this time around a frankenstein inspired robot girl under the care of her innocent father/creator).

So here he is as I remember him best, ready to start the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai (Martial Arts Tournament) with his uniform from Kame Sen'nin school.
